Bear Hunting AZ

Ive neer hunted bear before and I went our the other weekend with some buddies and saw a ton of sign but no bears(ya the sign was fresh) We would drive up a road a ways and get out and hike to a high point and glass for a bit and hike somewhere else and do the same. Then drive a bunch of miles and do the same. Im thinking that we should spend more time in a smaller area and stay high and glass a lot. Does anyone have experience hunting bear in AZ that would like to offer any advice as to what to do or what not to do, etc.?

depending on where you are in AZ determines how to hunt AZ bears. I have done quite a bit of early fall bear hunting in Unit 7. This time of year it is really dry and the way I found most productive was to sit on a hill top over looking a pond. I would watch bear after bear come in every single morning. Sitting on the top of a hill over a pond has 2 advatages to it.
1. it allows you to overlook a large area and catch movement
2. see bears coming into get a drink.

I have also heard stories of people killing AZ bears with a varmit call. I have never tried it , but it makes a lot of since to me. That may be worth the exploring. Good luck hopes this helps

P.S What unit???

Thanks for the info. I was in 23south camped near a water hole but it had a sign saying no hunting within 1/4 mile. Does that apply to all water holes or just the ones that are posted?

just the ones that are posted....Unless it is a new law passed that I have not heard of, but I think that is unlikely. Good Luck

Ryan if you look at that sign near the water hole I believe it may read no camping within 1/4 of a mile of a water hole. You can hunt on a water hole here in Az. Thumbs up
