Bear baiting question

I have been baititng for a little over a month now and my site is getting hit pretty much everyday. but every time i hunt it nothing comes in. is there anything i can do to get the bear to come in during shooting hours intsead of in the middle of the night? also, does this extremely nocturnal behavior indicate a potential large bear? i have a bucket of hard grease and i can see that his paw is about as wide as my hand is. how big is the average size bear paw?
any information is appreciated. thanks.

You can try pulling in the dominant bear in your area by reducing the amount of bait you're putting out. This will force the bears that are in the area to be more competitive and might just force the dominant boar to come in earlier than he has been to protect the bait pile. It works sometimes, but not always.

Also the bears will stay within close distance of the bait. Around 500 yds. If you have multiple bears then the dominant bear will run the little ones off. If you have a skittish bear come in grab bait and run then you have a bigger bear in the area. But if it walks in like he is king then thats the biggest bear.
As for the pad prints we usually figure for every 1" is a foot on the bear. 5" pad then a 5' bear. 6" pad and 6' bear. Measuring the front pad across is how we figure it.
I had a trail cam out in the spring and almost all the bears I got on it was at night then about 3 weeks into it they started feeding at all times. I have pics of them in the afternoon and in the morning and in the evenings. Mostly afternoons and mornings come to think of it. I shot mine in the evening.

Weight wise varies. There is a chart about measuring girth and length. Have read people talk about it. I will try to find it. Bears all depend size on how much feed and water they get. Berries and other natural foods.
I dont weigh up bears as I cut mine up by myself. I saw one when getting bait the other day at the meat cutters and it was a 5' sow and just carcass and no hide no head no guts was 146 pds hanging on the scales.

Wear an extra tee shirt out to your bait site & before you leave tie it about 4 feet above the bait or leave it in your stand. This way if the bear wants the bait bad enough he will have to get comfortable with your smell and use less bait is a good idea. Try some fish oil or vanellia extract. When I hunted over a bait in Alaska I used to take a leak right off my stand before I left each night. One night I almost pissed on a sow and cub. I took a 2 bear off that stand in 2 years and there where 7 bears taken from that stand in the 3 years after I moved and passed on that bait site. 1 of my bears had a 18 3/8" skull and was over 6 1/2'
best of luck.....
