Be in Shape!

Unless you plan on driving around, road hunting for Elk. Do yourself a favor and get in shape. If you are a hunter and on this site, I am sure you have read an article or two on this. I dont think however that any article out there says to much on the best way  to get in shape, or except to say do some walking and eat right.

Stay away from the fad dieting and follow a good sound eating plan. Dont try and stop eating and starve yourself, you will only end up worse off. If you want some real good advice, you will find it in the P-90X routine. This is not a fad diet or exercise routine. This is the real deal! I started out doing it last year, but only did half the routines. I wish I did it right, right off the bat. A couple of the routines are perfect for the Elk hunter. I always thought I was to macho to do some of those silly exercises. But I challenge any hunter to do the routine for 90 days. If you start now you will be able to finish the 90 days just in time for your hunt, if not finish, you will be close. You will be in great shape and enjoy your hunt. Just follow the routine and eating plan, it isn't that difficult! The advice is sound and so are the workouts. It only takes a little over one hour a day. The biggest difference it made for me was my leg strength. I always thought I was in good shape, but I  made great improvements and eat better and more than I ever have. You will look great for those trophy pictures and be in great shape. Good Luck!

Congrats

Good for you. You will not be disappointed as long as you stick with it. Did you start it for a hunt or other reasons? Are you following the recommendations on eating? Good luck, let me know if you need any information or help

I started it to loose some

I started it to loose some pounds, I had already changed my diet  a few months ago and with that alone made a difference. Now I'm trying to get back into peak shape since I'm gonna be doing some wilderness hunts next year.

You will find that most but

You will find that most but not all hunters will try and stay in shape the year round just for the simple reason that is doesn't make sence to go on a diet and get in shape at the begining of summer of your hunt.  All the hunters that I hunt with are out  in the wilds for more time than the average person.  That includes hunting during the winter months for ducks and geese and sloging through water and 2-3' of snow for rabbits.  The bigest place that most hunters slack off in is in carring a pack with what ever weight you want to put in it.  So if you are getting in shape for a elk hunt you had better include that.  Put 80-100 pounds into a pack and do your regiment and see how you feel.

Idea

Great Idea Critter!. I dont even do that, But I will be trying that for sure this week for giggles and kicks. Even though I did a great leg routine yesterday. Not all my friends stay in great shape throughout the year, so good for all yours. But we don't have a smoker in the group which is always good.

Alright Critter, I just went to the local high school and ran stairs with a backpack. On the way there I was getting some strange looks (no big deal). That was a awesome routine, it kicks. I actually read some articles how some sheep hunters do this. Thanks for the advice, I will be doing this alot

Quit the carbs! I went on a Paleo diet last year and have never felt better. No carbs but all the meat and veggies you want. Not that hard. I can also highly recommend joining your local CrossFit if you really want to get in shape.

Carbs

How much wieght have you lost not eating carbs? Thats a body building trick used for cutting during a competition.

Thats one of the reasons we hunt, right? To eat meat! Atleast that's why I do.
