I would rate the hunt between

I would rate the hunt between a 7-8. I saw deer every day and obviously shot a nice buck. The only reason I didn't give the hunt a 10 is because the terrain was rugged and elevation was high. It is definitely not for the average hunter. I took a friend up the week before the season opener and he couldn't deal with the elevation and steep inclines. He had to hike back down and drive home.

Although, that is why they call it High Country hunting and that's what I was looking for.

By asking why you shot a "dink", he was asking why you shot such a small deer.  And yes, he was being sarcastic.....very sarcastic..... Wink

To shoot a deer like that is awesome, let alone it being your first.  If I do get to do my trip next fall, I will be happy with half a deer like that.  Great story to go along with it, and so happy you had a wife that wanted to share in the adventure! Big congrats!!!!!

I went back today to gather

I went back today to gather my tent I left. I took the bow in case I ran across a cow elk. No elk, but i did glass up 3 deer. Ranged them at 750 yards. Feeding in the open across the canyon.

Great Hunt

Wow what a great hunt and first deer and more importantly, congrats on the supportive wife. Amazing that you found such a nice buck with all the other hunters around.
