BAN on wild game meat lifted!

Hi Folks:

It's official, I just got a call.

The Ban is now lifted for "hunter harvested game meat" from Canada.

There will be a permit system.

Details soon.

Regards
Terry
All the best

Newfoundland got some very good press on 9/11 when our people went far and beyond normal hospitality for stranded passengers and now is the time to start calling in some of that good will.

A lot of US people are very grateful to Canada for those acts of kindness, even though it was the people of Atlantic Canada and especially the people of Newfoundland who did the most.On 9-11-01 our small town of Gander and many other towns in Newfoundland became directly involved as 77 large jets showed up at our various airports. Gander had 39 jets on the ground and a small town of 15,000 suddenly had 7500 guests to care for. In true Newfoundland tradition, our people shared what they had and did their best to make the unexpected travelers comfortable and welcome. Some were with us for almost a week. Here is a photo from that day, as you can see, parking was a problem..

A few years ago, our head guide Isaac, guided George Bush Sr. when he fished the Lower Gander River, we still have the boat he used.

Regards

Terry

I don't think the ruminant ban has anything to do with the white house or who did or did not support the deposing of Saddam.

Over the last two years, various U.S. states have been banning the movement of cervids (dead or alive) across state borders, with some exceptions for capes, horns, and hides. This means that even if the Canadian ban were lifted, several states would still not let you bring the meat in. With states locking up borders with other states and with known cases of CWD in certain Canadian provinces, it was only a matter of time before the Canada/U.S. border movement was restricted, w/ or w/o mad cow turning up in Alberta.

That is good news. Glad they are taking a rational approach to how the importing is handled. It will be interesting to see what the states do.

If a region is going to all out ban import of meat because of CWD fear, I would hope they would at least give the hunter the ability to have the game tested for CWD and if it turns up negative allow the import.
