Milliondollarbear - did you get to hunt this weekend? How did you do? We did get two out of four bait stations.

On one bait station hunter got busted and bear didn't even stop at bait station so couldn't get a good shot but we think it ended up at another bait station and was shot by another hunter. The 1st bait station wasn't hit that night or the next day so hoping another bear will decide to come in and check out the bait station.

nmn, went up on sunday to check baits and one of the two was visited by a medium size bear got a decent pic of him I think he came around last year . he came in at night . He seems to be coming every three days, taking thurs and fri off from work to sit in stand for two days. Also putting addition on cabin for the next 2 weekends so i will be in the latest bait I have set upI have a total of four I am trying to hunt. What time did your bears come in ? Mine always come in at night, well after hours. Trying new bait on two of the sites one is jelly donut scent and the other is a bear attractant . And I mixed my molasses with sugar to put the sweet back in.

The bears came in around 7:00 or so. Both around the same time. Like I said the big one (210 lbs.) came in station #1at around 6:00 but figure it got a wiff of the hunter as it walked in, looked up at the stand, and then took off. Did shoot once but just didn't connect as it was on the run. Figure it got over by station #2 at around 6:30 PM, sat in the trees for about twenty mintues and then came out and the hunter got a shot and got him. We are figuring its the same bear.

At station #3 it was about 7:00 or 7:30 when one came in and got it.

Went out and checked station #1 last night to see if anything had hit it, but no luck. Going out again tonight to see if one will come. They are planning on coming up again this weekend to hunt. Do you think another bear will come back to station #1?

We do have another bait station (#4) and that had been getting hit. It was hit a couple of times when the hunters were here, but on the last day they were here (sunday) it wasn't hit at all. Going out tonight and checking it to see if its been hit.

Also was wondering if after you get a bear from a station do you think if you kept on baiting it another bear might come to it - just looking for some thoughts on this.

Good luck on your hunting and hopefuly you will connect with one. I know what you mean about coming in late at night. I think the one coming at station #1 was normally coming late at night but made a wrong decision to come earlier. We have been using grease, bread, oats, pudding for bait this year. Hoping one will come back to station #1 as the only weekend they can make it up again is probably this weekend.

Bear hunting - nothing but luck!!!!

Two major factors in whether other adult bears will continue to use a bait site after one is taken from the site are: how close to the bait site the bear was when it finally went down and how much the area is disturbed in getting the bear out of the woods. If the bear goes down on the spot or after only a short distance, you'll be leaving a lot of trace behind close to the bait site that seems to throw most other bears off for a while. Once the coyotes, wolves, etc clean up the gut pile and the rain has washed away the blood, adults and mature bears will gradually return. Yearlings and sub-adults don't seem to care about steping over a gut pile to get to the bait, but the mature ones will disappear for a while.

Thanks for the info....

Hoping something comes to the bait station that we had a bear but believe it wondered off to another bait station that night and got shot. Going out tonight to check it out. I am sure with all the activity out there it might take awhile to get another bear to come to the site. I don't think we will try baiting the two that we did get a bear off of, just the one where one wasn't shot but scared off.

I guess time will tell.

good luck to you on your hunt.
