Bait crib

We need to cover bait because of all the predators, Bobcat, Fisher, wolves, birds etc. Too low and wet for pits. Big spruce bog, lowland Cedar, Alder and Willow. If you hunt on federal land you can't dig pits for bait either. Maybe it is time to look into hunting in Canada. Here we have a lottery so you can't hunt any year you want for bear. How much does a non-resident have to go through to hunt with a rifle in Canada Atomikall? Brick Wall,)

Blackbear, you might as well start with a passport--not needed to get in here but easier to re-enter the States. You need some form (again a U.S. document) I believe its to show proof that you own the firearm in your possession--required when you re-enter. You need to fill in a Canadian document, Non-Resident Firearm Declaration(I believe its free). And you need to fork over whatever the outfitter charges for his/her hunt. Thats it! The only stinker is if you have a DWI or such offence. That has to be expunged from your record through some system of 'rehabilitation' that you good folks have in the States.
After the hunt, you'll need to purchase an export permit for the hide and meat, currently $35.00 Cdn. And the old Cites permits are no longer needed for bear.

Thanks Sawbill. That does not sound bad. Any idea what the outfitters get up there? My daughter and her husband are bear guides here in Minnesota but I have no Idea what the rates are North of the border.

I think a rough range for outfitted hunts would start about $800 or $850 US funds for a Sat --Sat trip. Changeover day is usually Saturday. Upper ranges should be about $1200 for meals included. A bit depends on additional services like skinning and cut and wrap. Some may be extra, some may be included. You would have to add a non-res licence at $183 Cdn or something goofy like that, and an export permit at $35 to get your hide and meat back to the States.
One other thing to look at is different rates at lodges that cater to anglers throughout the entire summer and offer a bear hunt as an aside. Their rates may be significantly different from an outfitter who offers just bear hunts alone.
When you research an outfitter, thats something to look at. I'd book with an outfitter whose business is just the bear hunt.
