A wooden Box (Make one thats what I use)2x4s and chipboard(aspenite).

Believe it or not we can not use boxes because of the use of nails, screws, glue etc.

You gotta be kidding me lol not even glue. Oh well a hole will work just the same and its about all you have really right cover it up with some nice big thick trees and you should be good too go.

where i am on the east coast i don't have any problems getting bear to come to apple pile on the ground the smell as they get rotten just seems to bring them in , a little molasses on them wouldn't hurt either

We are in big bog country. Lots of lowland Cedar, Willow and Alder. Holes get wet too soon. On federal lands you can't dig holes for bait pits. I did not get drawn for a bear tag this year so I'm planning ahead. I would like to start hunting Canada but it sounds like more money than I can put into hunting now.

you could try making a box using logs ,log cabin style using wooden pegs instead of nails or lashed with degradeable rope , or drilling holes with an auger i a dead tree and packing the holes with bait

Good idea trapper, sounds like your state is pretty strick man.

I have been using something like a log structure. It works well enough but I use pretty good size logs and good size bears toss the logs like sticks. You know what it's like lifting heavy logs covered with slime from bait.
