Bad Rifle/ Scope

Pretty well all the Equipment we talk about in "good stuff". After we buy it is a poor time to talk about what we shouls stay away from.

I 'll start with ammo you can get here in Nova Scotia. PMC(Precision Made Cartridge) used to be Pan Metal Corporation.. I took a friend 308 to the range and couldn't get a four inch group at 100 yrs with this stuff. A box )of whatever it was( I think maybe Winchester ) really tightend the group.

Imperial ammo, I beleive Canadian only, was just about as bad.
ChesterGolf will know where I'm comming from.

Imperial ammo... I forgot about that stuff. The old gold box but that was about as golden as it got. You are right hammer... it was junk. I lost a nice 7 point buck because of imperial ammo. Pulled the trigger... click.... ejected cartridge and put in a new one... click... deer walks away. I thought I had a broken firing pin but after examining the primers, they were hit hard. I think imperial ammo was made by PETA so we wouldn't get any animals if we did hunt. Yes

As for bad weapons... I had an old Cooey .22 single shot that was a tack driver so I decided to buy a cooey semi .22. That thing might as well been a single shot because it would not feed at all. I tried every brand and make of .22 long rifle I could find. Brick Wall,) It was very accurate though. Mr. Cool!

I think the gold box Browning 375 H&H ammo was loaded by Imperial. There was only two things wrong with it. It was loaded too hot , and the solids used in it were pointed, and would vier off course in a Cape Buffalo, and wound most times, rather that hit the internal organ you were shooting for! I have a full box of it in my cartridge collection, and that is where it will stay! Mr. Cool!

Had half a box of Winchester 30-30 150 gr soft points not go off one time. Luckly I discovered this at the local sand pit target shooting instead of while hunting. Have not bought winchester ammo since. Tend to stick with Federal rifle ammo. Ammo is all they do so I think that the QA/QC is better. On the other hand I have a Browning shotgun that dosent shoot federal slugs worth a darn but loves remington sluggers?

I might be off here but it seem's to me that Imperial was known as ICL, Imperial Cartridge Limited, in this country a long time ago. I never tried that stuff so have no opinion of it but, weren't they the first to put plastic tips in bullet's? If I remember right, that was the late 60's and early 70's. I vagely remember thinking that any bullet with a plastic tip couldn't be all that good, and I reloaded everything any wat. Comr to think, didn't they also make a plastic shotshell you could see in to? Maybe my mind's starting to go!

I beleive Imperial was manufactured by CIL(Canadian Industries Limited) and also was under the name of "Dominion Cartridge".
I can remember as a young lad being told by the older guys to always twist the copper on the bullet with every Imperial shell. If the copper was loose or would spin around, it should not be used.
A few years later I was helping my neighbour skin a deer and located the entire copper case in the hide on the entrance side.
Some shots would be loud, some not, the ones that didn't fire, you threw in a swamp. Just total crap.

You got a good memory Hammer. Maybe you are still having nightmares about the stuff. I still have a camo hat with the imperial logo. It was about the only thing Imperial not cheap and crappy.

This stuff about Imperial ammo brings back memories. Back 40-some years ago when I was a youngster, the Coast to Coast hardware store in my hometown in Illinois sold this stuff at pretty low prices. I fired a lot of their shotgun shells. Their "Imperial Magnum" load in 12 gauge was very impressive looking with brass almost halfway up the shell. They kicked like a mule on steroids but usually killed em if you hit em. I killed my first duck and first Canada goose with these loads. Also shot some of their .22 rimfires and 12 gauge slugs. Don't ever remember a misfire.

The shotgun shells were not that bad. They were paper so they wasn't that great in the duck blind if you were wet but they did have a wallop thanks to the 1-7/8oz of lead they packed in the 3"magnums. I did have a lot of .410 duds as well as .22LR duds but their rifle loads were horrid... great loads and bullet selection when they fired but that was only able 80% of the time. eye roll
