Back from Texas deer hunt

Well we just got back tonight and I have to say the trip went pretty well. We didn't get the big bucks we were hoping for but it doesn't always work out that way. My son killed his first whitetail with a nice 8 point. My dad actually killed an old 6 point that weighed out at 215 pound. I shot a small 8 that has greatshape and wouuld have been a great one later. We cut the trip a little short and tagged out quickly rather than wait as My aunt had a bypass surgery by surprise this morning. I'll be running to St, mary's hospital in Junction tomorrow. Everything went well but it's not easy for sure.

Btw I shot the only hog we saw but it was a pretty good one at over 200 pounds. Didn't weigh him but it was sure heavy. They said it's a young one but man he's big. Already ate the backstraps on the grill and they were great.

That sounds like a GREAT hunt!

Congratulations to your whole family on the successful season ! Those are great looking bucks that I would be happy with putting a tag on any one of them! That's awesome that you could be there when your son got his first deer and that it is such a nice buck.  Sharing a successful hunt with your loved ones is as good as it gets!  The fact that all of you managed to fill your tags is fantastic.  You are truly blessed.  Treasure these memories and any future hunts that you have like them. Take lots of pictures! Part of true happiness is enjoying each day for what it has to offer knowing that THESE are the good times!  Hopefully all of you can enjoy a lot of similar successes together in the future ahead!  Thanks for sharing the results of your hunts and your photographs with us.  Congratulations on filling teh freezer with pork too!  Good call on cutting the hunt short.  That's part of being family too.  Well done all around!

Very nice Hunter!  Looks like

Very nice Hunter!  Looks like you guys had a solid trip to Texas!!!  Congrat all the way around, and congrats to your son on getting his first whitetail.  Quite a bit different from hunting Mulies.

That's one heck of a pig too.  200 pounds is nothing to laugh at.  Maybe if you go down further in the southeast, like Georgia, Alabama, etc., but not anywhere out this way.  I bet the backstraps were delicious.

Nice work!

Way ta go

Way ta go Hunter25!  Looks like a fantastic trip with great results.  There's just nothing like hunting with family.  My dad took me on my first hunt 53 years ago and I'll never forget it.  He wasn't even a hunter.... just took me out because he knew I would love it.  I've now been privileged to watch my son, daughter and 5 of my grandkids harvest big game.  It's something you never get tired of.

Congratulations on taking such nice bucks.  I'd be proud ta hang a tag on any of them.  And I'd be happy to wrap a lip around any of the great meat you're going to get.  They look prime.

The hog should be great eating as well.  I have taken only one hog but boy was he good!  From the looks of things, you had a great trip with great people and took some great animals.  How does it get any better?

My aunt is doing very well.

My aunt is doing very well. They actually caught it before she had a heart attack and did the surgery with no problems. Just a slow recovery now.

We hunted out of Childress in the southeast corner of the panhandle. Very dry country this year and the hogs and deer just weren't where they normally like to be. It's interesting in that the landowner said he never even saw a hog until 5 years ago and now they kill dozens of them. Last year was the most with 62 killed by the end of the deer season.

Congrats on the hunt it looks

Congrats on the hunt it looks like it was a fun one.  Venison and pork in one hunt you can't beat that.  That is unless you throw in some fishing, and bird hunting.

Another great trip for you!

Another great trip for you!  I would be happy with any of those bucks, but then again with a user name like Meathunter, I don't usually let too many opportunities to bag something go by unless I'm on a true trophy hunt.  Can't imagine where you're putting all of the meat now.:thumbsup1:

Nice hog too.  I've thought about going to Texas for some hog hunting.  What a great bonus to add to your deer hunt.

Glad to hear your aunt is doing OK too.
