Just got back from north Texas last night. Had a great time but a fairly tough hunt with high temps and a bright moon this last week. I saw mule deer only on Monday and Tuesday and no deer again at all again until Thursday night. Finally with some cloud cover on Thursday I saw A whitetail doe and 2 fawns and just before dark a hog traveling down the draw I was watching. Since it was near dark and no buck in sight I decided to drop the hog which turned out to be a good 225 pound boar. Friday morning being the last chance to hunt before heading home I chose a spot with a long canyon a lot of game seemed to like using. First light had 5 mulies moving through the brush. ten minutes late had a coyote tempt me but let him go. At 6:55 I finally caught sight of antlers coming at about 250 yards working a brush line. Despite getting a little excited I let him close the distance to just over a 100 yards and was able to drop him with one shot. My son also killed a little 8 point the morning before just after first light. All ion all a great hunt and as usual can't wait to hunt them again next year.
Moon and Weather, but you both toughed it out!!! Congrats on the fine bucks!! Wait, and pig!!!! Awesome, thanks for sharing!!!

Not a dork but a good old redneck.
Congrats on the hunt. I'm counting down the days until my unit 44 late hunt starts on Wednesday. I was praying for snow and it looks like I got it.
Good luck Critter!! I'm thankful for the weather here as well. I have 4th season buck tag in 444 and either sex elk. The buck will be my focus though.
Should be a good hunt if it doesn't warm up too much.
I've been doing some pretty heavy scouting in the last week. So far I have spotted one 5x5 buck that will go around 195 in my journeys. Also the deer have just left the top of Hardsgravel mountain in the last 7 or 10 days and I expect that they have done about the same on Red Table. Also from what I have seen a lot of the elk are midway down the mountain on my side of the hill and are in the oaks. So you should have a good hunt.
I also have a cow tag for the same season but that cow is going to be secondary for me this year so that I can concentrate on a big buck.
Good Luck

Just messing with you. You can look however you want when you shoot critters! Congrats, some nice ones!
Congrats on two nice looking Texas deer. What part of Texas did you hunt at?
I got my New Mexico Barbary Sheep hunt coming up in February, I'll let you know how that goes.
Just north of Childress. East side of the handle.
I'm really interested in how your sheep hunt goes. We will be hunting them with McKinney again in Texas in January but it will be the last time due to cost. Wouldn't even have done it this time but my dad's still upset he didn't connect last year.
I want to hunt them again but will look to do it yourself in New Mexico in the future.
Good luck, it's coming up quickly.
