You need to know someone from one of the ranches in order to hunt Axis deer on Maui. Thats a connection that everyone dreams of. I am not to sure about the hunting on Molokai, but i'm fairly sure it's the same. The only thing That I can recomend is that you sign up for the Lanai Axis Deer lottery this Year. The tags are out as we speak. I am not sure of when the deadline is, But there are some trophys out there. The Largest I saw this year when I was hunting for Mouflon was about 26"-28". To me that is a trophy because the largest Buck I currently have is a 26" that I shot on Lanai about 10 years ago on a pay hunt. Good luck on your quest!
Good luck on your hunt for Axis Deer, I saw a nice one near the rubbish dump this past Mouflon season. I heard that there are alot of nice bucks out there this year, hopefully you can find one of them!
Hunting is not usually a pursuit where instant gratification abounds. It takes a lot of time, practice, resources and patience to be a successful hunter. So when someone decides that an area they hunted only once without taking an animal is worthless and devoid of game, I don't quite understand it. These people usually jump from game management unit to game management unit; trying a new one every year.
Now don't get me wrong, there are people that just enjoy scouting and hunting...
