Avatar problems

Maybe a moderator can help with this but I can't seem to get my avatar right. I have tried and tried to rotate the one where I am hiking so it is up right but as soon as it loads I am back on my back.

I tried to delete it and use the one with my deer picture and now it just switches them back and forth every couple of days.

Either one would be fine I just want to get it right and stay that way.

Thank you

You may need to get it

You may need to get it sitting the right direction before you upload it to this site and then move it to your aviatar.

Thats the problem man. It's sitting perfect in my computer but as soon as it uploads it's back on it's side.

Jaybe even copied it and sent it to me in an email to try to help but it still comes out on the side after upload.

I've been messing with it for more than a week now trying to fix it.

Thanks for the advice though.

That does sound like an interesting problem.  I know that i have had a few problems like that and usually use a photo program to get things straight and then upload them.  If you like you can send it to me and I'll play with it and see if we can get it right.  I'll send you my email in a PM.

Sounds good I'll check my email and try to send it over tomorrow evening after work or Tuesday if it looks like I'm gonna get in trouble for spending to much time on the computer on Valentines day. Big smile

I'll be honest and say my computer skills are barely adequate so I may be part of the problem.

avatars

Critter is correct, the photo you use for an avatar needs to be corrected in a program like Photoshop or other photo editing software. If you simply rotate in your photo viewing program, it does not usually save it rotated. So when you upload it goes back to the original state.

Right now your avatar is correctly rotated, we have not seen it switch back and forth. If you do, then it might be a local caching issue in your browser. Clear your browser cache and you should see only the one you've activated as your avatar.

Okay I tried clearing my

Okay I tried clearing my browser as best I could figure out and now the deer picture in my account is up as my avatar. I'm happy with that. I think maybe the reason I thought it was switching back and forth was because I use 3 different computers and was seeing the different pictures on different computers that had saved them that way.

Thanks for everyones help and I will keep an eye on it.

Still Rotated

Well, I took his picture and rotated it upright in my photo editor program and sent it back. It still comes out with him on his back.

I don't know about anyone else's computer, but it's still rotated on all 3 computers that I view him on.

I guess the poor guy is just doomed to that position. Confused

That is interesting in that

That is interesting in that the picture is straight for me.  I remember when it was tilted on its side but then it became straight and I have never saw it tilted again.  One thing that I didn't mention is that once it is straight and is loaded onto the server here it should stay that way no matter what it looks like when he views it on his personal computer except for when he is on the forums here and then it should be straight.  Perhaps we have some poltergeists on here that are messing with him.

browser cache

If you're seeing the images switch back and forth, anywhere on the site, not just the avatars, it's a local browser cache issue (on your computer). Monthly we switch out the header image on this site. Each time we do that, for about a day we can see either image until we clear the cache on each browser we use - and on each computer.

To instantly clear your browser cache, when you're on a site's page, click on Ctrl + F5 at the same time. You may need to do this a couple times and in each browser you use. This forces the browser to download the newest images and code to your browser.

Also if you're ever having display issues on a site/page, such as a page partially loading or broken in some way, clicking on Ctrl + F5 helps that too. Sometimes a connection can get interrupted and only a portion of the page loads, then it's cached that way on your computer. Clearing it out will usually fix it.
