I went deer hunting in Arkansas, there's been a couple of good bucks roaming around, the permit for a nonresident was $100, so I joined two friends in a field near their home for an afternoon hunt. When we first arrived, we spooked what appeared to be a decent six-pointer from the field, but we still chose to set up, as the deer out there don't usually stay spooked for long. I set up along one side of the field, sitting back against a small stump. It was cold, something like 35 degrees. At exactly 4:16 PM, the deer we had previously run off the field came out of the woods. I looked him over pretty good, at first contemplating not firing, and then I checked him out again when he turned broadside. Once I had decided I was going to take this deer, I chose to let him come into the center of field, so he would have no place to run. I fired a single shot from the sit, it was well over a 200-yard shot, and dropped him where he stood. When I got over to him, he still flopped around, even though his heart and one lung had been hit. I shot the same mark again, and he still thrashed, so I stabbed him in the side of his neck with my hunting knife. The deer finally expired after this, and one of my two hunting companions arrived with a truck.
