Arizona draw info?

Well, I've never really thought about hunting Arizona other than coupes deer, but just had an opportunity come along that I must now consider it. My B-in-law's friend owns 80 acres near Saligman, and says anytime I want to hunt, go for it. Now I know 80 acres isnt much, but it backs to some National forest. He says his last trip there, he saw about 10 elk on his land, and 2 groups of javelina. Plus he's seen deer, doves, and there are mountain lions all over.

So, It looks like it's possibly unit 10 or 18A. Reading about 10, it has trophy deer, record book antelope, and some 400 inch bulls each year. All that together means I might not get to hunt anything for 20 years of accumulating points...... However, I cannot find anything there like Clorado does, where it shows points required to draw. Does anyone out there have info on this unit, what the draw takes, or any other options? I know the draw deadlines are gone for this year, but looking forward to next year.

On a side note, 18A doesn't look too bad, but isn't glorified as much as 10.

Thanks......

I started thinking and

I started thinking and Arizona does have the draw odd set up in a PDF that you can download.

Here is the one for antelope and elk the one for deer will be out later in the year.

AZ DRAW

Arizona doesn't have any animals to draw. All the game animals have been relocated to New Mexico.

You'd be wasting your time in Arizona if you want to take a game animal here. Grin

Seriously though, all I'd ever really looked into was the coues deer draw, to go with you one of these years.  However, now that I possibly have access, I want to check those out. Any ideas?

Elk Draw

The antelope and elk draw are over for this year. Scout and learn the units this year and make sure you apply next year for elk and antelope.

Well, that's kinda why I

Well, that's kinda why I would like to find some info on success rates and such.  I don't really want to pay $150 a year just to build points, and wait 10 years to hunt.  Looking for what the possible tags are for OTC or limited point hunts.  I think there are some archery elk tags that are OTC, not sure what units though.  Colorado has a system that I've had no trouble navigating, but Arizona seems to put out limited information.

Let Me Know

When you get AZ figured out let us all know. Once I think I have it mastered they change the game plan. It gets really frustrating and so I just wing it. Hope, prayer, and blind luck had worked so far.

Unit 10

One of the better elk units in the state.
There are better units but it's still a good unit.

Link

If you want to go anterless your draw odds are better, obviously.

One of the bull elk hunts only had a 1% chance at drawing a tag. Don't get discouraged though. It's a numbers and timing game with a large smattering of luck thrown in. I think I've got a chance at getting drawn every three or four years for a certain hunt. I'll test it out in 2015 and 2016 as I used up all my Annual Leave dealing with some cardiac issues and will only hunt coues deer this year.

The link posted above, by Critter, if I remember correctly gives you the draw odds for the previous year and the success rate for two hunts ago. It's not perfect but is a pretty good indicator. Here's the link again:

I imagine that the deer regs

I imagine that the deer regs will be out next month since that is when the draw application period starts.  The pronghorn and elk regs are on line and the draws are compleate for both of them already.
