Are you ready to Rumble???

It's crunch time, fellows. I "need" a new deer rifle and it's down to a battle between 2 guns, and every opinion counts!!! Bucks are out there, just waiting to die.

In this corner, weighing in at 7lbs 6oz, we have a used, excellent condition Browning BAR chambered in 30-06 equiped with a Leupold 3-9x32 Rifleman. Retail price of $889... at the local gunshop for $695 (I'd offer them $650 cash).

And in the other corner, the challenger, weighing in at 7lbs no oz, we have a brand new, Savage Arms Ultra 114U with the New accutriger design and choice of 30-06 or .270! I already have a great scope I can move over to this rifle. Retail price of $569... at the local gunshop for $509.

Okay, Ladies and gentlemen... place your bets, and LETS GET READY TO RRRRUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Which rifle will it be? Your advice makes all the difference!

Take the .270...hahaha. Ok, just kidding. The BAR is the choice if it is clean mechanically and shoots properly.

After giving a thorough inspection, the BAR is in top condition. I will not, however, be able to fire it prior to purchasing...

Even though the BAR is one of the better semis. I'd still take the Savage. They are some of the best shooting rifles on the market and the accu-trigger can only make them better. As for calibre, I make no recommendations. The 30-06 and the 270 are so close together it really doesn't matter. Look in our local ammo stores and see which calibre has more choices.

So last night I get home and check my messages... A buddy of mine, who I haven't spoken with in about a year, purchased a new Weatherby .300 Short Mag on Sunday and asked if I wanted to buy his 8 year old Weatherby Mark V .300 win mag... beautiful walnut stock... muzzle break installed... scope... 1/2 box of ammo... new leather sling... for $500 cash...
Looks like I found my bolt action hunting rifle!!!

I'm glad I waited... I was going to pick up that Savage tonight after work!!!

Sounds like a great deal. Have fun with the rifle and let us know how she shoots.

Well you already got a rifle, but I'll throw in my two cents on the choice. I have shot neither the BAR or the Savage, but from all the forum posts I have read on both, either would have been a good choice (in 06 of course Wink ). I have never read a bad post about either, the Savage does seem to get more praise though.
