Are these Elk rubs on tree ?

Came across trees that had what look like could be elk rubs but are they? Also could some explain some terms for me, ran into a hunter and as he explained the area he mentioned a "BIG PARK" what does that mean? NO I know I wont find swings and kiddy slides LOL. But is it something different that a meadow?
Our Report on the 4th season hunt in 28, Sucked, To top it off the 93 mile drive home that took 6 1/2 hours. But know that next year has to be better than this year.
Thanks, Hope you all have great hunts.

Yep that is an elk rub and unless you or your friend is a small guy it looks like a good one. As far as what a BIG PARK is I would expect to find a large meadow with possibly a stream running through it.

new2elk, was it like that on both sides of the tree? I do not think it is a rub, I think it is were the elk have ate the bark. They do that a lot in the winter and the spring.

I don't think it's an elk rub. It's way to high. Ever see an elk tearing up a tree ? The head is mostly low with his nose pointing towards the ground. Perhaps moose ?

It's probably from a moose eating the bark off the tree in winter time, but porcupines and elk also do that. I'm certain it isn't a rub.

Park = Meadow.

The sign looks like
Porky.
Next time look at the base for quills and turds.

Yep....porky. You can see the teeth marks.

Way too uniform for an elk rub. I have found areas where the porkies will work a dozen trees (all same side) in a quarter acre.

it might be what some people call a blaze.
It is a way to mark a way in and out of some place. is the next tree visible from the first one? and so forth.

It doesn't bother me that it is high on the tree.
It bugs me that the patch is only up high - as if he were only tuning up his antler tips (I doubt it).

This one is from a good sized bull. You can see he has reached pretty high up there.

I didn't find any elk droppings at the tree above. I often don't., but I did on this one in this next photo below. You can see the droppings will be quite a distance from the tree.

The marks in your photo look like tooth marks. The fact that it is in a small patch also sounds like bark chewing. If that photo was taken in Unit 28 then I think the probability of it being a moose goes up considerably.
