This past weekend was a doe only hunt here in Michigan. Due to work commitments, I was only able to hunt 1 afternoon. Wouldn't ya know it, I only had 3 deer within range and they were all bucks.......but 1 was a real dandy.
My girlfriend and I sat on Sunday morning just looking and saw three giants, two of which sparred with each other for about 10 minutes. We had a 160" 10 pointer broadside at 32 yards at 0705. saw countless does and fawns. Sat last night and saw several does but no bucks. I'm gonna get out again Friday morning. I think the bucks are only moving in the morning right now.
Hinge-cutting serves several purposes in regard to improving both whitetail habitat and your hunting experience. There are two main types of hinge cuts including a cut for screening and funnels and a cut for bedding. Hinge cuts for screening and funnels should be done somewhere between the knee and waist to block a deer's vision as well as block a travel path. Hinge cuts for bedding should be done around chest high so that there is room for a deer to bed underneath.
