baetis6x, welcome to BGH. As far as the amount of pressure in unit 62, I have seen a serious increase in the last 5 years. You can expect the amount of people depending on the areas to be quite overwhelming. I personally like the week before muzzy and the week of muzzy. Yes there is more pressure during muzzy season but the elk seem to be rutting a little harder.

Thanks for your reply and the information. I just spent 3 days on unit 62. Alot of spotting and just learning the area. Saw a few cow elk, no bulls(expected this time of year). I was amazed on how much bear sign. Scat and tracks everywhere. I ran into a good size black bear just off the skyline just at dark. Scared the hell of of him.

Based on normal rut time what week would you think is best for a Archery Hunter , (9/5 - 9/12) or (9/12 - 9/19)?

Our rut in Utah favors the 9/12 - 9/19 week but weather obviously plays a factor.

We are leaning towards the (9/5 - 9/12) week based on the fact that we have been told the bulls tend to move into #61 after a week or two of pressure.

Thoughts?

As far as the elk being in full rut they actually really rut after archery season. As far as getting some bulls to come into you working them, I would go with 9/5-9/12 just because they are not quite as hammered by idiots continually training them. As for calling elk in unit 62, bugle to locate and cow call to keep him close and move in on him. Also I find that it seems that every one out there has a primos huchey mama, push that once and they are gone !!!!!!
