Archery Elk Unit 20 Colorado

I have been hovering around here for a while reading through the wealth of knowledge that is on these boards. I usually let my brother (Hawkeye270) do the posting as we are hunting partners. I am trying to hash out my plans for big game season this year as the April application deadline is right around the corner. Due to a deer hunt that is gonna interfere with my usual 3rd season Rifle hunt, I have been forced to look for an archery hunt near near Fort Collins. I usually hunt archery deer and 3rd rifle elk. I guess I am just doing it backwards this year. I have been looking at unit 20. Apparently I have a decent chance of drawing a cow tag second choice. Is it worth it to spend the points for a bull or either sex tag? Is this a good unit for me to be looking into or should I look somewhere else.

thanks,
Evan

20 is a good spot and infinitely better than 19, 7, or 8. There are some good bulls, but you are better off with a late rifle tag to go after them. An archery cow tag is good idea, especially if you aren't spending any points.
So basic answer, probably not worth the points (depending on what you're after) for an archery bull tag, probably worth it if you can get the archery cow tag on second choice.

Thanks Exbio. My brother always talks about and values your advice. I noticed the late season tag is possible to draw with my number of points after doing a little searching after I posted. You just gotta love having options. It turns a one week a year trip into a year around adventure.

Now that I have to agree with!!! I have decided that on the second I open up the choices on my deer tag, I am flipping a coin! I was getting too little sleep trying to go over & over everything twenty times to decide between two choices I had narrowed it down to for my deer. Either way, I am likely blowing my pref points unless I get some wild hair in the next couple of weeks and add another choice or two into the mix! banghead Brick Wall,) here's me argueing with myself!!! Argue LOL!

I have a buddy that hunts 20 with a bow usually for a bull, I think he said it takes him atleast a point, he found some nioce bulls last year just could not close the deal on them. I killed a cow a few yaers back in 20 but with a late season tag. I have some decent areas where I have seen some bulls and cows, but it ususally takes some snow to get them there as it is lower in elevation. If you are interested shot me a PM and give you what info I have.
