ARCHERY ELK HUNTING

can anyone give me some areas to scout in colorado for archery hunting for elk. I am coming there over labor day to do some scouting but would be nice to focus on a couple of units. I know about the private land and have had some discussions with game officers but would really like some input from all of you who have hunted in colorado. Any info would be greatly appreciated and if anyone get so lucky to draw an archery tag here in Arizona I would definately reciprocate information.

Thanks a ton.

Which unit(s) would I scout? Simple..........................the ones I have a tag for.

BUT...............if I were to think of a different area, I'd look at unit 65, maybe 54, possibly 231, maybe 4 and possibly 371. If you were to get a leftover tag for 23 or 24, I'd look into those areas as well. The possibilities are almost endless.

Thanks for the info. If you were to pick one of those units, which one has the best opportunity for harvesting. What I mean is best chances or possibilities of seeing elk.

Here's the deal. I've hunted all of those units and have seen elk in each one. Sometimes we'd get into them pretty good and other times we'd come home and eat tag soup. If you're looking for a cow or a raghorn, most all of them are good; if you're looking for a larger bull, unit 54 would be my pick, however the winter mortality rate from last winter took an enormous hit on the deer and a few elk. I'd also take a peek at 231..............not big bulls, but still a fair amount of them running around. For sheer numbers of elk, unit 23 and 24 in theWhite River Nat'l forest is going to be the ticket. You want to get away from people, then head into 65 and into the wilderness area.
