Hey Maineguide welcome to the board!

It has been years since I went duck hunting (late 80's). The duck population took a pretty heavy hit back then (in Colorado) and we stopped hunting them. Last few years though, I hear they have been coming back.

Now we don't have a lot of turkey in Colorado. But about two years ago I was floating down the Green River doing some fishing in Utah, well we pulled off the river to eat some lunch and I walked in to a pack of 5-10 turkeys! Had never seen them in that area before (it is really dry), but there they were, so I may have to get into turkey hunting too.

I have never hunted ducks before, but sure woudn't mind giving it a go some time.
I do Turkey hunt and in fact have a tag for the fall season. I did not have a tag for the spring hunt however. It's pretty hard to get a spring tag here, or at least it seems that way to me.
The Turkey population is doing well here and hopefully it will get easier in the future. You can buy an archery Turkey tag over the counter and the season is the same time as Deer. I get one every year 'cause you never know what is going to walk by. It paid off for me a couple of years ago.

ducks and turkeys are two of my favorite things to hunt. Goose ranks right up there at the top, too. Basically though, if it walks flies, swims or crawls and Texas Parks and Wildlife will let me hunt it, I do!

Ducks and geese are what I live for. I think it is the best form of hunting around. The population is on the rise but I'm doing my part in keeping it in check.

I wish we had turkey hunting here. There is a push to reintroduce turkeys but some antis are stopping the process.

That's strange confused?

Wonder why anti's would not want them reintroduced? Guess there is no sense in trying to understand...

The antis are against it because they feel that the only reason we wnat to reintroduce turkeys is to hunt them. Hell, yes... that is why I want them reintroduced but would only hunt them when they are established.

Well if they don't want to restore a native animal (bird) simply because it will get hunted, they are flat out warped.

Guess didn't need to have this example to realize that though...

The turkey's reintroduction and growth from abismal (spelling?) levels at the turn of the century, is a patent case of how sports men and women often fund succeful rehabilitation and conservation efforts.

It does sound strange that the anti's don't want to stock turkeys in your area.
I know here in Maine they want to bring back the wolf.
