12 gauge slugs will put most things down. Put it in the right spot.

That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure. They have some tough skin.

Yes I have killed some sows with both 12 gauge slugs and 00 Buckshot. I was using just the regular Forster rifled slug. I think Remington calls them Sluggers these days. The biggest sow was about 200 pounds. The distance wasn't great less than 50 yards. Complete pass through with the slugs. I can't really say to much about the 00 Buckshot. I've only shot one sow with Buckshot and it just so happened one of the balls hit her right in the middle of the head. Dropped her in her tracks. I'm not sure how it would have been if all the shot had gone into the body.

On a bigger boar I might want to pick my shot and place the slug just behind the front leg as the hog steps forward. In the "armpit" so to speak. That way you get the heart and miss the shield.

I even killed a small hog one day with a .410 slug. The hog was about 60 pounds and went down at the shot! I did happen to recover that little slug. I think .410 slugs only weigh 90 grains.

I killed 2 today using a 12 ga with 3" #2 steel shot. 1 went down with the 1st shot but the other one took 3 rounds. She was a big sow that weighed approx. 110-120 pounds.

I wasn't real happy with the #2 steel shot I used before so I switched to the Federal 3" with the Barnes Expander slugs. I zeroed my shotgun last Sunday, so I am anxious to try them out. We can't use 00 buck here in Georgia.

I have killed many hogs with buckshot of all different sizes it depending on which shotgun i am carrying i have guns that throw great patterns with 00 buck and some that throw better patterns with no1 buck or no4 buck but if you are using buckshot keep the ranges as close as you can i have found that if you see some hogs in the woods you can almost walk right up on them if they are busy rooting around if you just watch where you step and take your time, i have only shot one hog with a slug and it worked great i actually found the slug inside the hog when i field dressed him it hit the shoulder on one side and never came out i couldn't believe how big that 1 ounce slug flattened out it was big around as a half dollar

Any of you ever use the winchester surpreame with the partitions. I have a browning set up to hunt deer with. has fully rifled cantaleaver barell and a trijacon optic. may be something fun to try. I know it shoots good to 125 yards. just wondered how it would do on a pig.
