Anyone still hunt elk or moose with lever actions?

Just wondering if there are many of you who still prefer to hunt with lever guns. Aren't most shots under 200 yards?

I love lever actions and own three. I've taken my .35Rem with me several times as a back-up while Elk hunting, but have never actually used it. I guess I just felt my 30-06 would do a better job? You're correct as far as distance in my case, I hunt pretty thick timber and shots have been 150 yards and under I'd say.
That is of course when I haven't been using a bow!

Never hunted Moose.................... sad

How about you?

The Savage 99C (clip) and 99E in either 243 cal or 308 cal are very good quality firearms. Browning also makes or made levers in same calibres.

I take my model 94 .30-30 when I go into the thick stuff after them. Some of the county I hunt you have no time to get a scope on one before they bust out. Come to think of it, I haven't had enough time to get the old iron sights on 'em either! But it is my preferred weapon when I try to get in on their beds during the mid day. I stick to the long scoped gun for the dusk/dawn hunts.

I just took a medium size bull moose with a Savage 99 in .308. From about 175 yards scoped.

In the past I used my model 94 .30-.30 for caribou and always had success. These are close shots and caribou are not exactly wary prey when they are off the barren grounds and in the woods.

I love lever actions. That being said, I just ordered a a 30.06 Winchester in SS/ Syn. I wanted to get one before they disappeared.

My only hunting rifle is a Browning Lever in .308. And, although I haven't been lucky enough to get drawn yet, I fully intend to hunt moose with it.

I've taken moose with a Marlin 1895M (.450 Marlin) and my 10 yo son picked my Savage 99 in .300 Savage to carry this season for moose. He's able to handle the 180 gr. loads quite well for only being 10. I also have the BLR in .450 Marlin that I take out occasionally.
