Anyone seeing any bears yet

Here in Western MT I havent seen a thing, not one sign there out yet. No tracks not one pile of scat. The season runs to May 15 so hopefully they will be out. Almost think I should have got a fall tag I see them then. Hows everyone else doing? Any tips? thanks guys

Funny this topic should come up, I was just talking to the wife yesterday about the fact we haven't seen any yet this year. By this time last year we had over 5 bear a day visiting our bait and they were already prevalent along the roads. I have yet to see one this year. Mabey it's all the late snow we have been having, it's not as green as it was this time last year.

whitewateripper, it is too early for bears to come out and walk around, if You see a bear here or there it's only because the bear was " stretching " .
What we need is few weeks of hot weather once we get that You will see Bears all over the cutline, I say few more weeks and we will see our V.I.B not P walking around the bushes . I was out scouting for bears few weeks ago everything was still brown ,, no signs of life in the woods yet . I agree with alaskahunter about the last snow fall we had, that one screwed up everything for us !One guy once told me the best time to start looking for bear is when the color of the creeks changes from yellow to it's natural color, so few more weeks and life will prevail in the old dark woods Thumbs up

Any Bears out there?

Try hanging up some burlap strips that are soaked in old restraurant greese and hang them high in the trees around your bait area. ( thats if you are allowed to bait) Heat the greese up in a pot outside we usually put in a packet of cherry- or strawberry drink crystals and some choped up bacon and liquid smoke and soak 2 foot strips in it and put in a small bucket and seal just before going baiting hang these hot strips up to get that scent out. About 4 to 6 stips per bait. We also have taken a burlab sack and put in 4 cups of dry dog food. We then soak it in hot greese and seal it in a small bucket and bring to the bait site and tie a string on the bag and hang high up a tree 10 feet or more to hang the sack. Also try a sugar burn this really gets a lot of sweet smoke out there let me know if you want me to explain how its done.
Lookin for the big one!!

Saw the first sign yesterday. Just a print but it's a start, the skunk cabbage is coming up really nice all over now so it's a matter of time. I'm taking my bow and going out looking tonight, I'll let ya know what I find....

No baiting allowed that sucks- Are you allowed to use scents at all?
I just watched a video on scents only and calling in bears. They use what looks like a deer grunt tube and just spay the area with liquid smoke and anis oil, strawberry stray etc or put cotton balls on trees that are soaked in an attractant scent. The call is a long moan on the tube that simulates a bear in heat.
Any way hope all have goodluck this year!!!!
