anyone hunt axis deer in Texas?

I was looking at axis deer hunts today, free range only no high fence stuff. Has any one hunted them before or know of any good outfits? Just looking ahead for something new in 2013. All my time and money is spoken for till then but running different ideas around in my head.

Found one that looks okay for 1,800 but not sure if that is the normal price.

axis

I do have free-range as well as high fenced axis deer hunts. Although I understand your desire to hunt them free-range you will definantly have the highest success rates as well as bigger axis in a high fenced setting. There are plenty of high fenced ranches that are over 5000 acres+ where you will most likely never see a fence just like alot of the game inside. Our free ranged axis is a challenging hunt like anywhere else you might hunt a free ranged axis, sika, blackbuck ect. they are typically not real big or you may be hunting for 2-3 mature deer per ranch whereas you may have 15-20 in the resident population of a high fenced place. You must be very careful with high fenced ranches because they may be shot out to near extinction and if the landowner has become that money hungry he will tell you there are mature animals on the place and you don't see a single shooter or anything over 1 1/2 years old and you leave with some excuse about the weather, moon, breeding seasons, pressure ect. These landowners and thier guides know very well whats on the ranch but from experience I know the landowners instruct thier guides to lie. The way these crooks justify thier actions is that thier prices are low enough you shouldn't expect much. I worked for one of these ranches (which is a very well known place)in the past and it disqusted me to the point to where i split away. But he didnt charge more than $2000 for anything so weather or not you killed anything still ended up paying money for nothing but dissapointment. There are lots of good outfitters and ranches that have what you want but you should always ask for recent references (within the past month or two) and question them. if your intersted in doing a hunt please contact me I will be more than happy to take care of you or refer you to a good outfitter/ranch that has what you are looking for and has a respectable operation and warn you about the bad ones!
