Anyone familar with Lake Billy Chinook?

was curious how a 17ft canoe might fare on LBC? I would imagine the wind could pick up fast and with the high walls, might pose a problem? Anyone have any experience in small boats/canoes on LBC?

Thanks

how far are you planning on going out? Everytime Ive been down I havent had any wind, the rock walls protect most of the lake from it, I have to say though that most of my time has been spent there during the summer. Prinville res. has the worst wind though, pretty good swells for a lake but mostly glass and chop from other boats at billy chinook

The worst part of Billy Chinook and Prineville is during the summer to water ski traffic. On Billy Chinook, with a canoe, go past the lake and cross the bridge. Follow the road around to the far end. Water is quieter there. There's a parking area and campground right there. Also boat launch.

I was thinking of starting at the "Cove" and head up the Metolius arm of the lake. My major concern is the winds blowing down the canyon. But if I stay close to shore.....shouldnt be too far of a swim, eh?

Don, are you talking about the 'Perry Campground"..I think thats the name. Its way up the Metolius Branch. Your right, it probably be best to start up there then I could go either way, up river or down into the lake. Has anyone here ever floated the upper Metolius before? Is it canoeable?

Yea, I think it is called Perry. But if you stay close to shore, going up the Metolious Arm wouldn't be that big a deal I don't think.

Sure JR. But rather than the canoe, lets put them in my 15' runabout with the 50 hp motor. I have a life jacket in it for you! Big smile
