Anybody scouting for bucks yet?

Had an unseasonably cooler day today so I decided to go touch up some old stand sites, made a to do list for future stand work, and scouted for some new stand locations. In the process I came along a big buck bedded under a mulberry tree. Instantly decided this may be a spot for later observation.
Anyone else out pokin' around?

I will be heading out in a day or so, so I can check up on things!

I need to do some more scouting and prolly hang a few sets. When i say sets I mean two treestand set ups for the videoing. I should get some great footage this fall!

I scout year round.. But I don't mess around in the woods this time of year much. My predetermined stand sites are all picked in Feb. and March. This time of the year I sit back and watch the deer from a far and decide which ones to go after come Sept.

My usuall propertys I hunt basicaly have a few spots with ladder sands that I check out a day or two before I hunt if the action is not where the stands are, I bring the climber and hunt where the deer are. I have been in the woods a few times in the past month checking out some new state lands.
I have never really been a trophy hunter (they just arent here) so patterning a particular deer to hunt in the fall is something I have never had the chance to do. I am a hunter that tales the first legal deer he sees, put 4 in the freezer and hunt something else.

Stands ready, shooting not!

All of my stands are ready to go but the problem comes with my shooting. I got a new compound last year and haven't even taken it to the woods yet! I do plenty good enough to hunt with it but I have been shooting a recurve for the last few years and I guess I have started to shoot a little better but I am still not happy with my performance. Any tips other than "practice" would be appreciated.

Not that it matters, but here is a pic of my bow.

Thanks for the help,
Michael

Other than practice, practice, practice, I would say to make sure your bow is perfectly tuned so that you have complete confidence in where the arrow is going. If you have been shooting a recurve I'm sure you know all the basics as far as holding the bow, knowing your anchor point, aiming, releasing, following through, etc. I always practice with the same arrow setup as I will use in the field, just so I'll have that confidence of knowing that arrow should hit its mark if buck fever doesn't take over. Consistency is the key. Use the same form every time and practice all the time. You'll be a sharp shooter before you know it Big smile I also tape a message on my limb to remind me of 3 simple steps to help make me concentrate when that deer comes in. Helps me concentrate on my shooting rather than the deer. 1. Aim 2. Relax 3. Follow Through. Hope it helps some.

Sure you can use those tips Thumbs up I actually stole that idea from a magazine. It's probably helped me more than anything to put me in the right frame of mind. I get the jitters when a doe comes by, let alone a trophy buck Big smile
