Anybody hunted both whitetail and bla

cktail? Which one is tuffer. I've hunted blacktail's quite a bit in the past. Darn tuff in the country they live in. Never really hunted much whitetails but swome of the country they live in looks kinda messy too. I do know that what is called a nice blacktail won't appear to be all that big to a mule deer hunter or a whitetail hunter.

I've never seen an impressively sized Blacktail. All the ones I've seen were pretty small compared to Mule deer. They might get larger than I've seen, but I've just never seen em. The area where my in-laws live in Oregon is full of Blacktail.

Re Anybody hunted both whitetail and bla

I have never hunted black tails but they are on my list to do sometime in the furture over in Oregon. I have always chased mule deer till I started hunting up North in Idaho. I really like watching the white tails. They seem to be a lot more interesting with their personalities and body language than mule deer.

I have

I think blacktails are harder to hunt. One you can't hunt them in the rut at least not in Calif,2nd, if you hunt them in bow season which is this sat July 10 it is over 100 degrees everyday in the driest noisiest grass you can imagine.3rd, you can't make food plots, or place feeders. With that said I hunted whitails in the panhandle of Idaho and it was alot of fun. There was also a good population so we were seeing alot of them.

Its kinda nice here in oregon, we have a late season archery on the west side nov21-dec13, right in the middle of the rut, so we can hunt them during the rut, one of the reasons i switched to bow hunting

Whitetail vrs black

I grew up in Western N.Y. on a 220 acre farm. Corn fields and wood lots, I was too young to hunt, but dad and uncles always made it look easy.

For the last 24 years I have hunted blacktail in Western Or. and it's hard work. After getting out of highschool with nothing better to do, I bagged 2 wall hangers 140 - 150 ish, but most years I would be happy with a nice fork. Blacktails are smart and sneaky.

I attached pics of the two I had mounted.

Santiam

Numbnuts, both came out of the santiam unit. There was a third that my dad took, It was slightly wider than the dark antlered buck, and it had a 7" drop tine on one side. I'll look for some pics of that one.
