I know I am. Here is my bird from last year. It was my first. I'm really looking forward to trying to top him. I'm going to try to hunt a bunch of different parts of the state. All west of I-25 and for Merriams though.
I love to turkey hunt, but my own fault I have never really looked around Colorado for them. I usually go to KS and NE. Most hunters in CO that know where the turkeys are do not share very easily.....though I do not blame them. We just do not have the number taht KS and NE has. Maybe next year!
Wind is one of the most crucial variables in any kind of big game hunting. It helps level the playing field between a hunter with a scoped rifle and the game animals being hunted. This is not novel information. Any hunter who has consistent success in the field knows this. I have tried a couple different techniques for keeping track of the wind. Here are a couple.
The most simple and obvious is to just stay cognizant of it. It is amazing how slight of a breeze you can sense if you just pay...
