Anybody?

anybody out there hunt during bow season? Archery opens up on July 13 here in California. Got my eye on a buck already. Actually two. They seem to be twins. Two years ago I observed them as button bucks with thier mother, last year as large spikes but they have got a good start this year. Already showing small eye guards and have brached to a fork. Still got alot of growing left till opening day. May end up as 3 pointers or just nice forkies. We shall see.

Ontarget, are you using a trail cam to track these bucks?

bitmasher, over the past 3 years I have been taking photos of them with my 35m and a few trail cams I have set up. Kind of like a case history. It's very interesting to me to watch them grow and mature.

Yes that does sound interesting. I imagine that the bucks have developed pecularities that allows you to identify them year over year. If you have photos, it would be nice to post them.

It is rather hard for me to imagine using a trail cam. Most all of my hunting (big game or otherwise) has been in northwest colorado which is semi arid. Chico and sage brush are the norm so there really aren't a lot trees or regular paths that deer take. Around here it seems like a trail cam would be a "bush cam" which would take *great* pictures of deer and elk *knees* but not much else, if even that...

You hunt in North CA, so I imagine the area is heavily forested and gives more opportunity for trails that deer aggregate on...

Bitmasher, if there's a place here I could post them let me know and I'll give it a try. The area I'm taking the pics of the bucks is not as forrested as you might think. There is alot of open space and some Oaks. Half of the time the trail cams are rigged to a post and not a tree. Sometimes you'll find a trail thats getting alot of use and there is no tree around. So I'll put a post in. These trails are normally used at night since there out in the open. They help keep me posted of whats moving through the area. Thinking about trying it Bitmasher?

About posting the pictures, I don't think there is a native way to post pictures but you can upload the pictures to a public server (free like geocities or tripod). Then link to the photos with an html img tag....

Hey MODERATOR, care to comment on this????

Yes I did have visions of heavy forest hunting. That seems to be the only pictures of Northern CA that I see anyway...

Yes this trail cam stuff sounds interesting, come to think of it I do from time to time see what appear to be trails, although it is hard sometimes to tell since they could be cattle trails. There are a lot of cattle where I hunt...

Either way, I'd like to rig up a video feed from an infrared camera , that would be interesting too. But major power problems abound...

Ontarget, I would like to see your photos too.

Please send them as jpeg's to info@biggamehunt.net and I'll get them posted here on the server.

thanks!

I'll get them gathered up and send them your way in the next couple of days. Will they show up under the post or on another page?

Hello Ontarget,

Ok that sounds great. If you want we can run the photos in the "photos and tall tails" area of BGH or post here in the forums.

Thank you...
