Any tried the remington 710??

I was just wondering, my grandpa picked up one for me in .270 winchester. Its used though. it comes with a sling, scope, 3 magazines and 2 boxes of ammo. Its about a year old and has had about 5 shots put through it. It was $400. I was wondering ... is this a good gun?

Although I havn't used the 710 all the reviews are great and I have no reason to doubt it Remington make excellent quality bolt action rifles and the 270 win is the calibre that so many have tried to compete with but have not surpassed as of yet. An excellent combination of rifle and calibre.
Is the scope the one that came with the package, I beleive it was a Bushnell Sharpshooter, but i'm too lazy to check. Bushnell Sharpshooter is Busnell's lower priced model. You may want to consider another scope if that's the case.
Regardless, your new 270 is one hell of a good quality firearm
congrats..........

The only complaints I have heard are the lack of "After-market accessories" (i.e. stocks, etc.) made for the rifle and the magazine latch is a plastic piece made into the rifle stock and if mag is placed improperly, the latch can break and the whole stock must be replaced.

Other than that you have a good gun and a great all around caliber.

A bad big game hunting gun is one that is either not reliable or not accurate enough for the distances you wish to shoot. All other factors are subjective.

The 710 from what I've heard should be fine in both these regards. $400 for a used one does seem a bit high though if it is still factory configured.

Rambo:
Yor rifle is $ 429.95 form SIR Mailorder in Winnipeg, plus $ 65 in taxes and I beleive there is an additional transaction fee of $25 or $ 50.00, plus all your acessories, you did great.
I'm going to change my previous opinion as to the scope. Get to the range as soon as you can, sight in your rifle and if scope "stay on" and shoots consistent enought that your happy with it, keep it.
I love the 3-9 x 40 's andBusnell has beautiful, clear optics second to none. Only concern is that recoil would cause the scope to shift so fire 3-5 shots after sighting in to check consistency. Yes Yes Yes

The price tag on the box said it was 510$ , the guy bought it from a sport shop in the pas. I went out last satuday and sunday and me and my friend put 50 rounds threw it. works quite well. he also put a few boxes threw his new .223 WSSM.
