Any tips?

I'm new to BGH. Great site!

I am also new to hunting elk. I live in North Idaho, and will be rifle hunting. Hubby and I went out last weekend with zero luck. We did however pass many trucks on the way home with nice big bulls. Do any of you experienced vets have some tips that could help me out? Anyone know of the "hot" spots up north?

Any tips, comments would be greatly appreciated Big smile

How far north (north Idaho)? I am not a seasoned elk hunter - but I have hunted them enough to know that they aren't a slam dunk. The guys driving back with elk on their trucks have probably been doing it a while. There were also probably a lot of trucks without elk on them. Elk survived extinction while buffalo didn't - for a reason.

They have an ability to not get killed.

Keep at it - learn by doing.

Ask locals - they'll probably give you some good info.

Thank you guys for all the warm welcomes Big smile

Well, went up yesterday with no luck. Didn't see anything, not even deer. Do you guys hit your cow call frequently while you are hiking? I wonder if I am using it too much Think I've been using the mew or lost cow call on the hoochie mama. Also, should I still be using the cow estrus?
