Any Open Seasons Left in NM?

This is probably a dumb question but...
Does anyone know about an open season for any of the game available in NM? I am now getting back into hunting, and finding the "rule book" a little hard to follow. When I was a kid, I used to go hunting all the time with a couple of friends (now frienemies). We hunted birds and rabbits and stuff all year, and the one time I went deer hunting with my dad we didn't even SEE a deer. So now I don't know anyone who goes hunting well enough to ask dumb questions to. So I put it to you..."THE FORUM".
Any help would be appreciated. I live in Valencia County in New Mexico, any locals  around?
Thanks people.

Hello and welcome to the

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The only leftover tags in NM right now are the archery Javelina. Everything else has already been purchased or drawn.

There's still plenty of small game hunting going on.

BTW, How's the pheasant hunting in Valencia County, NM. I live in El Paso, TX.

Be careful

As prhunter said there is still plenty of small game to be had.  Just be careful.  If you used to hunt the ditches around Los Lunas and Belen a lot of the roads are closed and there are a lot more rules.  If am not sure where you might be able to still shoot.  You need a small game license for some species.

There are still jackrabbits and coyotes on the mesa and you can go out there anytime, probably not as much as you remember but they are there.

There are some over-the-counter hunts for barbary sheep and ibex in the southern part of the state, but they are in units where there are very few if animals and therefore probably not worth it.

The people on this forum are good natured and no one will belittle you for asking questions.

Hey, small game might be just the thing that you need to get back into hunting. If your not into archery javalina, as mentioned earlier, that appears to be your only bet until next year.  Good luck!

  Barnacle Bob - a hearty

Barnacle Bob - a hearty welcome to BGH - AARRRGHHH!!!  Okay - sorry as I couldn't resist it!

You will get a great deal of information from this web site and the very hunters that will provide your answers... so no question is EVER a dumb question.  Only not using this web site is dumb!

You also get opinions - and here is mine... I always hunt small game to pass the hunting months outside of the big game seasons.  I also am trying coyote for the first time this year and into 2012.  So pass your time while you wait for the ability to get invvolved with the next draws.
