New to this sight, just found it.
Having hunted in unit 15 on 6 different occasions, Hope for the good weather and be ready for the bad.
If you are going to camp, make sure you have a good heater.
The wife has a tag for the late season this year, will be up there camping.
Have most of my scouting done the elk are where they have been for the last 20 years, same places same valley. You have to walk in, so they are not being harassed by the road hunters. Was there 3 weeks ago coyote hunting and saw 2 different herds looks like some nice bulls growing.
If you would like some more information send me a PM.

I'm new to this site also. I have a unit 15 muzzleloader tag for Mid October. Can anyone tell me if the bulls are still bugling or in the rut during this time?

Yes the elk will still be bugling in Oct. I’ve tried to talk with them during this time, all the herd bull does is gather his harem and leave, They will still be in the herds and satellite bulls on the outside, herd bulls with the cows, breeding the cows that come into season late or missed the first time. I just use there bugles to locate them.

Thanks M. Bird.
So you think the calling should be limited just to locate them, otherwise too much calling may push them out? Any tips for an area to get started? I'm looking for a good bull...about 350 class or better.

First time user and I drew a Unit 15 archery hunt and it starts on the 19th and ends on the 24th, can anybody give any info if this is a good hunt because I know there are two hunts before this and where I can start looking for a good bull.

I drew the third archery hunt, I went down this weekend scouting and found a group of 80 cows Thumbs up Alot of calves and spikes a few bulls. Plenty of elk. I plan on just keeping tabs on the cows and stumbling into the bulls. That unit is managed great for archery hunters and should be exciting

Was down in 15 this weekend, 3 less coyotes are down there Evil! , the yotes where in good shape, 2 young males(2yr olds) and one older female (dry) and worn down teeth. Both mornings saw nice herds in the valley. One herd working the south east side, grazing to the tree line about 30 cows plus calf’s with spikes and rag horns mixed in (total animals counted 52). Second herd on the North West side of valley working the grassy meadows this group was feeding late into the morning before moving into the trees. Had 3 nice bulls hanging on the outside of the cows, one was a wide spread 5X6 with good mass. All the elk where fat and looked in good shape.
Could be a good productive season.
