Just wondering if anyone is hearing any bugling yet, since the temps are still so high?
Heard some reports of some but very little consistency.
I haven't heard of anything in Utah just yet. They usually don't start for another couple weeks around here though.
I heard a couple of them the second week of August in Southern Utah first thing in the morning. It was a weak one but it was a bugle. We were above a heard of around 60 cows, calfs, and small bulls while they feed in a meadow. I believe that the one that let loose was a small 4x4. The larger bulls were still up high on the hillside a half mile away from the heard.
only bugles I here are in my garage at this time not much for elk in sacramento going 1st rifle season colorado:wink:
we just recently had a few days of colder weather in idaho and expect the bulls will start heating up with this cooler weather.
finally heard one today, a lone rag-horn bull one weak bugle
I was up working a wildfire outside lowman, Idaho two weeks ago and did not hear any bugles. We saw on average 10 - 30 head a day of elk and they were quit as could be. Did see one cow moose and the salmon were spawning rather nice trip it turned out to be
spent the weekend in the black hills here in southdakota...saw a NICE group of really nice bulls. one 7x7 in the 320 class and the rest went down to the the 220 inch 4x4...
i was just hiking and camping for fun and looking for elk to talk to.
heard one bugle...short at 7a.m. ish
While they were getting into the elk, the mature bulls were mostly quiet still.
They are starting to heat up in RMNP. The park rut is normally a week and a little ahead of surrounding areas in Colorado.
