I was at the taxidermist this week picking up a squirrel I had mounted and while paying my balance I noticed a picture taped to the wall behind the counter. It was of a boy with one of the biggest Mule Deer I have ever seen. I don't know about scoring and such, but I swear it had a rack like my outstretched arms. A true MONSTER!
I commented about the picture and it turns out it was a "Wanted Poster". Apparently the boy (11 years old) shot the deer last year in the Kaibab region of Az, and it was his first. It was caped and in camp and the family went to recover a deer by another member of the party. When they got back it was stolen!
Can you believe that! I felt horrible just thinking about it, let alone what the poor kid must have felt. I just can't imagine doing that to another hunter. People like that ought to be hung!
At least he has a picture but what a shame. I guess the family made copies and took/sent them to all the different taxidermists around hoping that if the criminal took it in to get mounted they could get it back.
Anything like that ever happen to one of you?
