Luckily, I have never had anything like that happen. Unfortunately, there seems no bottom to the depth that people will go in commiting crimes. No regard for the others.

I hope this kid goes on to bust another deer and hunting/hunters have not put a bad taste in his mouth. Forunately the bad apples are few and far between. That being said when we are in the back country in the last few years we do lock our vehicles. The wilderness doesn't seem to be immune from thieves...

I haven't had a problem like this or heard anything like that. However it seems like stealing nice mounts (mounted or otherwise) is not above some people....

Some people are just pretty desperate I guess.

Geez, what next?

I had that happen last year in my yard. I don't get my antlers mounted but I do save them and nail them to our camp wall. I had eleven sets of whitetail and two sets of moose and all are gone. I'm not overly upset but it is disturbing to think that somebody would take them for whatever reason. There was some nice racks there as well, a 6 point with 19" spread, an 8 point with 18" spread, and a 14 point with 20.5" spread(never measured officially) and a variety of small freezer meat bucks. The bull moose were both nice. I think this thing is happening because antlers are now marketable and are selling non-stop on ebay for top dollar. Why somebody would want another persons deer is beyond me.

Wow you got cleaned out, man! That is too bad, I can't believe people steal antlers and such. The fun is in bagging your own!

Your right about ebay though. The other day I saw cattle heads and other mounts selling for high prices. I read an article a while back that said there is some sort of "retro" movement where lots of yuppies like to buy these mounts and decorate their urban abodes. The mounts some how capture that "down home western feel" or something.

Yuppies don't hunt so they just pay a lot to for one "pre-mounted".

I don't know why somebody would want somebody elses antler! The fun is bagging for sure and that is why I'm not devastated over it. They are only bragging rights but I hate to think somebody else is bragging with my deer. I will shoot more and I will hang them up again. If somebody thinks they need them more than me then they are welcome to them... just don't get caught.

-Chester, perhaps obtaining a realistic looking human skull repilica and "mounting" it along with your new sets of racks would act as some deterrant. you could put a little plaque under it listing some information....

Opening day here in Montana my phone just rang, its a good friends of ours. She tells me she just shot a 5x5 bull elk first shot in the lungs, second in the back. The elk fell over and went crashing down hill. she picked up her gear found her husband and followed the blood and broken brush right down to a guy skinning out her elk. He never even fired a shot just fell from heven :smile: Whats the guy thinking !!!!!!!!!!
