decoy hat

I just found out about the OTC archery antelope tags a few months ago, and I think I will give that a try this year.  Still trying to figure out how to get close enough for it to matter, but I will worry about that later.  Should be fun.

Let me know if you do.  I made plenty of mistakes and learned a few different tactics that I can tell you about.  Flat ground with no cover...possible.

So I looked back at the old

So I looked back at the old post covering these hat decoys, and it looks like you were getting some serious testing in.  It also sounds like you got a few opportunities, and I was curious how last season ended up?

If it works why not.  I

If it works why not.  I remember the day that I was elk hunting and here came some hunter in a cow costume, and it wasn't a cow elk either.  He said that he couldn't find an elk one.  A couple of days later he had a nice bow killed bull elk in his camp.  That and I've seen hunters use a cow elk decoy to hide behind or to hand onto it as they walk into shooting range.  It may look strange but it does work.

Let's just say I shot a ton, lost a bunch of arrows, and had the most fun I have ever had hunting!  The hat did not work everytime, but it got me closer and held the animals longer than if I was not wearing the decoy hat.  I final shot my buck at 20 yards after he say me ducking over a little knob.  After I saw his horns, I got down on my knees and got ready.  When he came to the top of the knob, I was able to range him at around 35 yards.  I went to pull back, when he started walking right to me.  I drew my bow as he was walking to me and final shot him at 20 yards.  He was not aggresive, but did think I was another antelope.  The heart was pumping!

If I did not have the decoy hat on, this would not have happened.

Congrats on a nice looking buck!  Sounds like it was a fun hunt.  Thanks for your assessment of the product.
