12 for 12 -- 94th percentile. If questions like that are a challenge for most Americans, it's no wonder the electorate has been making such poor decisions lately. It also underscores the point that opinion polls simply reflect the predominance of a belief among a society, and not necessarily the validity of that belief.

That was an easy one.

Opinion polls reflect....... opinion.

I thought that was obvious.

Then why do you keep posting polls on this forum like you're trying to convince us of the validity of some position you're postulating? We see that again and again from the left. Whenever there's debate, they start dragging out the polls to back their position. They seem to think that we're all political lemmings that need someone to tell us where the crowd is going.

You brought up polls, not me. This is a news quiz post.

I said "forum" not "thread." I'm 12 for 12, remember? I'm a smart guy. I'm using your news quiz to illustrate a point. I prefer such analytical methods to simply posting a poll or a Wiki quote.

12 for 12. This quiz isn't even a challenge.

BTW pangolin, if you had read the info on the results page, you would know that this quiz was based on a poll. It gives you demographic poll results. Or didn't you get that far in the quiz??

I did see the demographics on the news quiz poll cowgal, but no opinion poll, could you tell me where it is or perhaps link?

Opinion polls poll opinion, as I said.

Pew does opinion polling but this is a poll of factual material. Pew is polling to find out the level of pulblic knowledge of the economy. I mean Bernanke really is the fed chaiman. You might preffer Greenspan but the guy who is in charge now is Bernanke, you can have an opinion about Bernanke but the fact that he is the Fed Chairman is firmly understood by the fact based community.

Opinion polling when done right elicits opinion from the people in the poll in such a way that you can extrapolate the results to cover a much broader swath of the general public. Questions are carefully worded not to get an intended result but to more accurately assess people's opinions.

Polls which are worded so to influence answers, such as "do you approve or disaprove of the socialist Muslim who is apt to eat your children" or rely on self selected respondents such as an internet polls are generaly not regarded as a true poll. Often these polls are used to try to manipulate opinion, such as before the last election when Fox posted a Zogby poll that showed McCain up in the presidential election. The intent was to encourage Republican voters to show up at the polls rather than staying home during an election that was a forgone conclusion.

There is another type of poll called a push poll. It's a low form of negative campaigning usually using the telephone and robo calls. The most famous instance was when Karl Rove asked South Carolina residents "Would you be more likely or less likely to vote for John McCain for president if you knew he had fathered an illegitimate black child?" Absolutely untrue but in a state and party with lingering racism it pushed all the right buttons. George Bush won that primary, heck of a fella.

After you take the quiz, your score is compared to a phone survey of the same questions. No link, you need to do the entire quiz, then read the results and how they put together the results to compare yours to. Geez, this was your post. Didn't you read it? BTW, I said poll, not opinion poll.

Well you don't have to take any of the quiz actually, that's how I originaly happened on the quiz. Pew is a site I have bookmarked and I go there once in a while. Ya I know, it's not TV but oh well.

Here's one of those polls you like and it's about 2nd amend.
