I found this site when searching for elk/deer hunting in Washington. I mostly cruise Alaska chat rooms (Alaska Outdoors Directory and Pristine Ventures) and 24 Hour Campfire.

I'd like to come down there and hunt sometime. My first fly-out hunt (in Alaska) is being planned for '09 so I realistically won't be down that way until 2010, unless there is the chance of hunting big game over Christmas break as I am a teacher.

I like to big game hunt (moose is my "speciality") and I have only recently taken up black bear and sheep unsuccessfully. I like to read a lot so any suggestions to read up about hunting WA would be appreciated. I do a lot of family camping w/ the wife & kids in the summer and am getting into small game as my stepson has finally taken an interest at age 15!

My father lives in Bremerton and my cousin is across the Cascades outside of Spokane, so that is part of my motivation for choosing WA for elk/deer.

Welcome to BGH. Used to live up there myself, mid 80's. Loved it up there but the economy went south and so did I. Went back up to Fairbanks a year or so ago and boy have things changed up there. I used to sit on a friends deck with a spoting scope in anchourage and watch sheep in the mountains, the moose were in his front yard! I lived in Wasilla and Pitman (behind Rainbow) on the Parks Hwy.

Thanks guys this seems to be a great site, I'm looking forward to learning more about hunting in the NW. Sad to say, but it seems hunting down there is fairly restricted and it appears that access is an issue too.

DF: Lots of moose in Anchorage now. 1,000+ in the city. Brown/black bears all over town too. I live in NE Anchorage and had a black bear crap in my neighbors yard this summer and then split. Mountains are still loaded with sheep.

Prices by your old place in the Valley are WAY up. We looked in '01 off Fairview Loop-5 acres for $38,500; '06 the same 5 acres was $104,500!
