Another Epic Hunt

Spent 18 days archery hunting this year... Had lots of highs and a couple low's. We managed to put two elk on the ground. Had a 350 class bull two yards from my son and couldn't close the deal. LOL Oh well. The next day we stuck a 5x5 10 min before dark and decided to let it lay down and get him in the morning. A nasty rain storm came in and washed away my blood trail. Which sucked. We did manage to put a very nice 6x5 down and recover it after a long long trek. If it wasn't for my son and his amazing eye sight we wouldn't have recovered this animal. He found a very very small drop of blood 50 yards from the last drop to keep us on the trail. I have way to many stories to tell about this season. I was able to see elk every day I hunted except 3. We called and past on so many rag horn bulls it was stupid this year.

Nice

Congrats on the 2 elk. Filling the freezer is a good thing. 18 days is a long time. How were the roads to travel after all the rain?

The main roads were fine for where we go. The off road trail sucked. But I have the whole outfitters set up so we were fine once we got up there. I just hate the thought of losing an animal because of the rain. But it's something you have to deal with in September. Thank you to all of you for the Congratulatory's

I know how you feel! I lost a 12x6 muley I shot at about 12 feet with the smokepole. Pulled my shot as I did not get the chance to set the hair trigger. I could of jumped on him and stabbed him, but his horns were intimidating. Stumbled off and I went to get my partner. Started hailing and didn't stop until there was about 6 inches on the ground. Last place I had blood was on both sides of the cattails as he went through. Never did find him! Made me sick!

Congratulations on your hunt.

Congratulations on your hunt. Looks like your hard work paid off. I know what you mean about the rain as it was bad this year. Glad you got to fill the freezer.
