Wow, that's a very vague

Wow, that's a very vague question.  There are so many variables that go into it.  I am assuming you are hunting whitetails, since this is the forum for that.  But beyond that, where are you hunting, bedding, food plot, travel corridor?  If it's food, then either catch them going to it just before dark, or coming out of the fields right after light.

What is the weather going to be like? I have seen times where a storm front is approaching, and have had deer get up and move at noon in order to feed before the bad weather hits.  Then, there is the rut.  Who knows what they will do then.  Many, many big bucks have been shot at high noon, when 95% of the hunters are out of the woods eating lunch.  I am one of those hunters who leave the woods mid day, but I can tell you that on many occasions, I have come back for the evening hunt and had deer tracks right over mine fromt he morning.

It's really a toss up.  Other things like deer density, hunting pressure, etc., can also play a part. If you are asking for my favorite time to hunt, I like the evenings.  There seems to always be deer movement for me in what I call the "witching hour".  However, is it the BEST time to hunt?  I don't know.  I haven't killed a deer in the last 10 years, so I'm not doing too much right at this time.... lol

If you have to choose a

If you have to choose a either or type of hunt then I would go with a morning hunt, but then I like afternoon hunts just as well.  It all depends on what the animals are doing.  I have seen hunts where they don't come out of the heavy cover until 5 minutes before dark and I have also seen times when they are back into cover just as the sun starts to come up.  That is where it makes it a hard question to answer.

For myself I usually plan on being out from before daybreak to after dark just for those reasons, and it may surprise you on just how much animals move around during the day.

morning

I've shot ALL my deer in the morning. I've seen deer in the evening/late afternoon but they've always been youngsters. If I had that choice I'd hunt first light to an hour past mid-day.

Generally from the time

Generally from the time season starts until the late season starts, I prefer mornings. However, I really like evening hunts as well in the early season. In the rut anytime is great. Late season I have basically all but stopped my morning hunting. I would say 95% of my laste season hunting is in the evening. But, like these other guys have said, there are so many variables you have to consider. Do what you have to do and good luck with your season.

I say neither. I prefer mid

I say neither. I prefer mid morning untill late afternoon. I say that just because thats when the deer in my area move around from there day beds. I hunt blacktails and they are out in my area during the night and bed before the sun comes up and dont really start full on avtivity till way past when the sun goes down. they do however move around a feed a bit mid day, my trail cam pics confirm that. So with this question you'll probably get different answers from everyone. it just really comes down to what the deer in your area are doing and at what times. Good luck on your hunt.

When?

I say it depends. If it's early season, I'd choose to hunt mornings over afternoons. If it was pre-rut (close to the rut) and rut, I'd say sitting from midday to dark would be better. I have seen lots of bucks just as darkness falls and also mid-afternoon, cruising for does. Early day, normally they are exhausted from chasing all night and are bedded. You can see one late in getting to his bed, of course.

In the late season and IF your area has cold weather, then mid morning, after the sun has risen and warmed the air is when to be in the woods. The deer will remain bedded in bitter cold Wx until the sun comes up and warms the air. Only then they will get up and move, since staying bedded early is warmer for them and more practical. This is true ONLY when weather is cold, cold, cold.
