You may or you may not be able to handle it. Some people thast are very slight handle a lot of recoil very well. Others that would appear to have no problem, fold with recoil. Handling recoil is a learned thing.

I would suggest you ask your dad to get you some 1 oz or 1 1/8 oz light target loads to start out. That Remington O/U should have some weight to it that will help control the recoil to some degree. Remember to get the butt into your shoulder. If you leave a gap between the butt and your shoulder, you give the gun a run at you. Imagine a guy hitting you in the arm with his fist on your arm, it'll be a shove. Same guy does the same thing but this time his fist is a couple inches away from your arm, that's gonna hurt!

Also be sure and get your cheek down on the stock. Same principle as the butt. The gun will recoil up and into your cheek. Cheek on the stock, it's a push. Cheek not down firmly on the stock, the gun takes a run at you, that could hurt.

Try to get your hands on a 20 ga. or 16 ga. first and work your way up from there. If that isn't possible, get the cheapest softest skeet loads you can find and try them. Don't move to slugs or 3" magnums until you get used to the feel of the recoil.

Definite ditto. There's a HUGE difference between bird shot and these bad boys.

My first gun was a single shot full choke 12 ga and I was 12 years old. I have always been very agressive when it comes to guns and I never had a problem with that one. But again I wasn't firing 3" magnum turkey loads out of it either.

Just follow these instrustions and you should be fine. Thats all I hunted with at your age dont ask me why but me and my cousin always hunted together and he had a Cooey 22Lr and I had the Winchester Pump 12. I still use it for birds and waterfowl and love it.
