Aluminum or carbon

I won't go under 8gr per pound of pull with laminated limbs and 5gr per pound with composite limbs. They will hold up to these stresses.
For hunting with compounds I stay as close to the Pope and Young minimum as I can get. Washington is 6gr per pound of pull. Arrows are around 400grs.
With the traditionals I shoot the best at 8.5 to 9grs per pound of pull. Arrow are around 550grs.
When I go after Black bear. I have a recurve set up that shoots a 600gr arrow including a 145gr head and a compound set up that shoots a 550gr arrow including a 125gr head.

With the traditionals. I limit myself to 30 yds. Compounds 60 yds.

Aluminum or carbon

I sure busted up a lot of aluminum arrows this past year. Lately I have taken favor to the Easton/Beman HIT arrows. I shot a few of them, when they first came out, with good results, I might add. The most noticeable difference, with the HIT's, is I don't go through arrows, unless I loose one. I can shoot the same dozen for quite some time. They may run $80 or so a dozen, for shafts, but I'm not tossing bent arrows at the end of the day.
I don't shoot them exclusively because I still have a couple of boxes of alumunums to get through and I carry a few aluminums for those long questionable shots that we all like to try our hand at. Just because we can.
This year I'm setting up my traditional bows to shoot the MFX's. So far I like the way the 340 classics shoot out of the new 70 lb'er I just had limbs made for and I shot a 500 out of another takedown recurve. With excellent results. Very nice and very sturdy arrows.

The key thing that I have noticed is. It's easier to find a heavy weight aluminum with a thick wall than a heavy weight carbon that will shoot out of some of my bows. I primarily shoot recurves. So, my speed is limited and find a heavy arrow will retain a bit more energy.
In my 68 lb. recurve. I have found a carbon and 2 blade cut on contact combination that weighs in excess of 530 grs and lauches at 196 ft/sec. With 44 ft/lbs of kinetic energy, it's plenty of arrow for these big Roosevelts up here and I'm not having to deal with bent arrows.

I dont disagree with that I use aluminum too ,but from my perspective carbon is better for the hunting I do and Ive bent alot of aluminum, so I think they are the same for bending. Plus I dont use a compound I use a cross so I figure if they are gonna bend there gonna bend either way, Ive actually broken a couple carbon arrows.
