AK accuracy

Has anyone else had good results out of any variation of the ak?
i was at the range and one of the guys there had it with him and i emptied a clip into coke cans at 100 yards. Not bad since alot of people seem to the 7.62x39 is inaccuarate.

The issue is not so much the cartridge. Rather ak's, especially the stamped variety, tend to have a less than rigid action. In other words the barrel recoil causes the action to flex a bit. The milled receiver ak's (more $$$) are more rigid and tend to be more accurate.

I agree with Bitmasher, it is the rifle, not the cartridge that creates accuracy. In the case of the all the AKs, except the absolute top drawer AKs, accuracy is something they didn't build into the rifles. Cartridges are not accurate, none of them, till they are mated with an accurate rifle! The 7.62X39 cartridge in a good bolt action rifle is a tack driver, and is about the same power as a 30-30!

AKs appear to be the weapon of choice for firing into the air at Middle Eastern weddings and funerals.

...or for spraying bullets around corners at people like me.

Good points above. Automat Kalashnikova wasn't designed for accuracy, but for reliability, and reliable it is. Unfortunately, it is particularly well-suited to the "spray and pray" marksmanship method.

You might find one here or there that shoots well, but so MANY countries and factories have cranked these out that there's really no consistency, other than the parts all seem to fit each other because the tolerances are so loose and suitable for really crappy environments like sand, ice, etc. Not a good formula for accuracy.

Some great 7.62x39 bolt guns around though. I've seriously thought about picking up a CZ on the short Mauser action.

............................................................ eye roll
Just like the news media, everyone who plays with these pieces of crap made in China, and else where in some dirt floored blacksmith's shop, calls what they have an "AK47" . The news media is expected to make these mistakes on purpose, because they are bias against all guns, and this is the one they can fool the uneducated public with because it looks like a machine gun. The media wants folks to think these are full auto weapons, because they are easier to get the public behind the ban. A lot of the owners of these things, help the media along with their constant aperience on the fireing line dressed in full combat gear, and shooting at human picture targets, and makeing dumb comments, in public, about blowing someone away! DUMB!

The "Kalashnikov AK47" is a far better firearm than any of the stamped out junk that is being imported into the USA for the gang bangers to play with.

Most true Military assault rifles, are designed to be used, for the most part, in a fire team, where the idea is to fill the air with bullets, to increase the chance of the enemy being hit by someone's bullet, and if one rifle jams, it isn't noticed because you have 15 others firing while the jam is being cleared. Accuracy is not built into most of these rifles, even good ones, because what is needed is rate of fire, from a full auto weapon, not accuracy!
sad
