I had the recent opportunity to shoot a S&W 629 in 44 mag. and it was a great firearm to shoot. I love it but have limited revolver experience. It's owner has several brands of revolvers and said he was more than impressed with this one.

Is this your first handgun? What is your experence with pistols/revolvers. I wouldn't sugest a 44 for a first pistol.

currently I carry a Glock 17 in 9mm. Have carried 38sp S&W. Have shot ruger 357, wanted the 44 simply for the extra punch when hunting. Would be used mainly for hunting, and no I dont want a T.C. either Nice weapon, I just want the extra shots.

My hands are on the small side and for me the S&W factory grips on the M-29 fit just right.

Can I make a suggestion? The .44 will give you great service for what you intend. But another one you might want to consider is the .41 mag. It has plenty of punch for hunting and noticibly less recoil.

Which ever one you go with I would reccomend the 6" barrell. If it was a straight hunting rig the 8-3/8" barrell is better. For defense you will like the 6" better.

If you like the GLOCK go with a 10 mm. The frames just a little bit wider. It's roughly the same power wise as the 41 mag. IF I were going for a revolver I'd go for a a 357 mag.. Best of luck.

Ted Nugent hunts with a 10 all the time. I belive he killed a cape buff with it on video. Wouldn't go that far with it tho. Be live they even have a special 6 in barrel for hunting. Just throwning that out there as I see you own a GLOCK.

Every one is different. I have a 44 Mag in a Dan Wesson W/ a 6 inch barrel. Fits me great but anyone with small hands it would be too much to hold onto. Best bet is to do a tour of your local gun dealers and hold all the 44s that are out there.

The best .44mag for the money is a Ruger super red hawk i own a lot of .44mags and the 3 best i have found are the Dan Wesson, Ruger Super Red Hawk and the Taurus Raging Bull.
