Acorns

Acorns have just started dropping here like crazy
Anyone ever collect acorns and put out for deer, much like what you would do with apples?
i just collected a 5 gallon bucket and going to dump out by one of my cams this weekend, see what happens Big smile

They work great up here but the timing is always off for the actual season here. They are falling now but I need them to fall in late Oct/early Nov. Think

Sure have it works like a charm. No problem storing acorns. Make sure they are ventialted in a cool dry place. They work like a charm espescially after the rest of the crop is gone.

Are they OK in the 5 gal bucket with the lid off? Ok to hold on to till Nov.?

the few acorns around this year are being torn up by the deer right now unbelievably. just gonna be a short season hunting the acorns, gonna have to find 2nd food source

I think the lack of rain has caused them to drop earlier than normal here.

Yep just keep them dry and on the shady side of the barn garage ect.

Lotsa acorns again this year in these parts. They fell pretty early, though. Seems like they're getting the corn out early this year, too.

Yeah - Corn harvest started about 2 weeks ago here Seems real early.

Checked a stand that is in a white oak last Sunday and the deer have tore the ground up around those acorns! Only bad part is, the season doesn't open til Oct. 1 eye roll

how do you collect the acorns.Bare handed? I figure that deer would be able to pick up your scent on the acorns.
