9mm Handgun Loads for Hunting & Protection in the Field

Here's a few 9mm loads for prudent hunters to consider as an emergency backup weapon or for varmint hunting at short distances only:

1. Hornady 147-gr. XTP Soft Point or JHP @ 875 fps in Glock 19 (4" barrel).

2. Double Tap 147-gr. Bonded Gold Dot JHP @ 1,135 fps in Glock 17 (4.5" barrel).

3. Winchester Ranger T 147-gr. JHP (RA9T) @ 990 fps in Glock 19 (4" barrel).

4. Speer 147-gr. Gold Dot JHP.

5. Remington 147-gr. Golden Saber JHP.

6. Federal 147-gr. HST JHP.

7. Federal 147-gr. Hydra-Shok JHP.

8. Double Tap 124-gr. Bonded Gold Dot JHP @ 1,310 fps in Glock 17 (4.5" barrel).

9. Hornady 124-gr. XTP JHP.

10. For emergency self defense, use: 1. 147-gr. FMJ Ball; 2. Any heavy for caliber load from above; 3. Run really fast. Laugh

9mm Handgun Loads for Hunting & Protection in the Field

Question? Are you talking about protection in the field from another human or protection in the field from a dangerous animal??? Because with the exception of maybe a mountain lion, any other animal that would pose a threat in the wilderness would require more than a 9mm. A .44 Rem Mag would be something to consider for protection from wild agressive animals. The 9mm Parabellum was designed for protection against man sized/weight attackers at close range. Wouldn't even consider using a 9mm against smaller dangerous game like wild boars. No way!!

CorBon loaded with Barnes DPX is the nastiest in all the land. I've seen what they can do to two and four legged animals.

Doesn't matter....Four legged or a four legger who can stand on two. Trust me, a 9mm parabellum is nowhere near suitable for these large beasts, or any other dangerous animal in the wilderness Shame on You!

Never said that nor did 147 grain. The only bears I run into in Missouri is when Chicago is in town. The 3 pitbulls 1 bullmasta, 5 rots that tried to eat me (9 different incidents) and my team mates sure didn't like getting riddled with "da 9" (MP5). If I new ya better I'd tell ya about the 2 legged animals. Shame on You!
