7mm Rem Mag!!

I dont care what sombody else has told you about the 308 and elk hunting, have you ever shot an elk with a 308?Have you ever shot an elk?The 308 is not an elk cartridge unless you do your elk hunting at very close range, even then why take a chance? When you hunt in areas where you may have to shoot 300+ yards and you need to put an elk down (MONTANA) the 308 would never be considered.Once again this is not a 308 thread PLEASE start one if you want to talk about it.The last trip my father made to Africa he took a 7mag and a 416 rm,he shot everything but the Cape Buff with the 7rm,the guide he hunted with carrys a 7rm and has killed lions with it.It is his favorite plains game gun because of the range and knockdown power it provides.I wonder if anyone has ever taken a c buff with one? Think

7mm Rem Mag!!

Ok, going back to the beginning, my original post to this topic, I said the 308 was more accurate than the 7MM REM MAG, a point that I've supported pretty well, and more importantly, something I have been illustrating on a continuing basis is the 7MM REM MAG is not a MAGICAL CARTRIDGE. I am disagreeing with his point that it's automatically the best round on the planet and no other can equal it. I don't care if he doesn't like my opinions. Thumbs up

Now think about it, how many times have I written fondly of the 7MM REM MAG? LOTS! YES, LOTS! But you don't see me calling it a magical round, or saying it's better than everything else. Now correct me if I'm wrong but I'm still allowed to disagree. Shame on You!

if you had read the original post at the start of the thread it says there are other rounds capable of being an equal to the 7mm RM,never called it a benchrest rifle or the most accurate, just a great all around rifle for NA,the only thing magical about it is the hunting that i do with it.I always call the last hour of legal light magic hour because everything comes out to feed and move around, maybe Ill start calling my 7 my magic wand! Thumbs up neener! Thumbs up

Captain, you can disagree all you want to, but you don't have to insist you're right. Make your point once, then leave it alone.

If someone wants to believe the 7mm Rem Mag is a magical round, more power to them. Big smile

You are welcome to start a new thread.

I don't think any cartridge (invented to date , so far) can classify a a "Magical Cartridge" . They all have their plus and minuses. But i do think the areas of shooting we dicscussed in this thread are well with in the capabilites of the 7MM RM.

You can't compare bench rest shooting to hunting. Sure both bullets have to hit their mark..but in bench rest the bullet has to pierce paper (10 ft-LB will do that) not drop a 200+ LBS animal..

Having said all that i agree the 308 is an accurate round. Start a topic and i'll post my thoughts there.. lol

Yesterday i was at my favorite gun store and one of the owners finally brought in his photo album of a south african safari they went on a few months ago. They shot wart hog, Kudo, impala, blue cape buffalo (i think he said blue..) and another animal that looked like a musk ox (forgot the name.)...Guess what he used for all that hunting?..The 7MM Rem Mag Thumbs up

Its so nice to have a rifle like the 7mm RM that is so versatile and capable of handling so many different species,if I had to pick one caliber to hunt with for the rest of my hunting career it would be my choice. If he took a Cape Buff with it you could take a brown bear with the same load, buffalo are actually one of the toughest animals to take with a medium bore rifle.I would like to know what load he used on the buff if you get a chance to ask.Long live the "magic wand" a.k.a. 7mm Remington Magnum!! Same can be said for a handfull of other standard calibers. Glad my dreams aren't filled with 7mm magic (false security hunting blanket) all night long.
