7mm Rem Mag!!

I am a big fan of the 7mm Rem Mag and I use it for everything(big game, predator) that I hunt here in Montana. How many of you have used the 7 mag?How many of you feel the same way I do about its versatility?Of the people who shoot a 7 mag what brand rifles do you shoot? There are plenty of calibers capable of being an all around rifle for the game we have here in MT but none as smooth and accurate as the good ole 7 Mag! Thumbs up

I love the 7mm mag. I have a savage and it has been great. I own 3 savage rifles and have found nothing to complain about them. I think I may like the .308 a little better even though I dont own one.

I'm a big fan of the 7mm Remington Magnum for long range work. If I were going for accuracy alone, I'd say 308 Winchester in a varminter-class rifle. 7mm Mag is accurate, but it won't compete with the 308 in a precision rifle.

While I like the caliber, my feelings for the 7mm Mag are no more than the 30-06. Both will get the job done with proper shot placement.

308 may be more accurate but its not the big game rifle that the 7 is,I would never consider the 308 an elk rifle,i wouldnt even consider it for deer when the 7 mag is an option. If all i ever hunted was deer and smaller game at close range it would be an option. The terrain we hunt out here you want to be able to throw a hevier bullet a long distance. If you want to talk just accuracy I think the 300wm will shoot just as good as a 308 any day and accuracy has NEVER been a problem with my 7mag,has anyone that has owned and shot a 7 mag ever had that problem? Think

I'm with you as far as saying the 7 rem is a better big game long range calibre than the 308 but you lost me when you said the 300 win is just as accurate as the 308. I'm not a big 308 fan but would choose it over the 300 wm any day for accuracy.

NONYA, only the 6mm BR and 6mm PPC-USA are more accurate than the 308.

I never said the 7mm Mag was not accurate or that there was any problem with it, I just said it does not compete with the 308's accuracy.

In reality, there are plenty of calibers that work just as well in the same terrain. The 264 Winchester Magnum, 270 Winchester, 280 Remington, and 30-06 work just as well. With factory loads, there's not a hell of a lot of difference in trajectory between these and the 7mm Remington Magnum.

By the same token, the 25-06 and 260 Remington are excellent choices for mule deer, bighorn sheep, and mountain goat hunting. I'm not saying the 7mm Mag is a bad round, I wouldn't own one if I felt that way, but I don't feel that it was crafted by the Almighty either.

I don't see the 7mm or 300 Magnum winning any benchrest competitions, of which the 308 has won plenty.

The Marine M40A1 Sniper Rifle is chambered for the 7.62 NATO (308), and uses 168 grain match-grade ammo and it is definitely more accurate than any 7mm Magnum or 300 Magnum.
